That part about being impatient for profit is true. Seriously, Nintendo's ass is in ice cream when it comes to money. Just to demonstrate, they could fund a disruptive and balls-to-the-wall specced console on just their last quarter profits alone. What was it... $1.2 billion? Imagine them sending $500 million to ATI and $500 million to IBM and asking them to make them something really special. And it's not like they are done sucking up all the profit and revenue this generation, either.
