Console gaming is definitely dead there. There won't be another Sony portable because Sony won't keep supporting a failing handheld just to make Japan happy. The Vita isn't even doing awesome there. It just looks good by comparison to the Wii U, PS3 and PS4, which are all doing shit.
The future of gaming in Japan will be Nintendo's next handheld and cell phones.
