If Microsoft did have a vision with Kinect, it's their fault for not executing it properly. Ideally there should have been a AAA Kinect exclusive available at launch or close to it in order to sell people on the idea. Wii had Wii Sports, Kinect on 360 got Dance Central, Kinect on XBO got Fighter Within and Kinect Sports Rivals. Neither of which is going to convert any non-believers.
As of now it's mainly an OS tool. A neat way to navigate the menus with your voice or hand gestures. Some people will find that interesting enough to spend $99 but most will prefer XBO without it.
