Because to the majority of the Xbox One gaming community dropping the Kinect is about the worst decision ever. Sure it would have been met with a few cheers at E3. But moreso, it would have been meet with boos and screams to get rid of Phil.
People the bought into the vision of Xbox One and early adoptors are not happy at all.
I don't see the point of getting and Xbox One without Kinect. I'd just stay on PC and get a controller. Kinect was this gen's innovation. I'm not sure what it is now.
The last thing they want is people yelling and throwing things at E3. Which is exactly what this disaster would have cause to happen.
