No, I don't mean that Kinect Sports single handedly made them drop the Kinect, but that its lack of success maybe was the thing that finally pushed them over the edge.
If the game had become a success then they'd seen that as a sign that the people want the Kinect for gaming, but it not even selling 200k physical copies to date, might have shown them that for gaming purposes not too many people really care about the Kinect.
And since MS is hard at work to now establish that the X1 is a games machine first and foremost, it only makes sense for them to drop the peripheral that apparently not too many people really use for gaming.
