- Four face buttons CHECK - Two analogue sticks CHECK - DPad CHECK - Shoulder buttons CHECK It was not far from standard. The ONLY difference was that it had only 3 shoulder buttons versus 4 on PS2 and XBox. Just cause the buttons are shaped a little differently doesn't change the nuber of inputs and where they are located at all. |
I think of the Gamecube controller as a semi-standard.
It had 4 face buttons, but their placement and size weren't the standard set by the SNES.
It had one analog stick and one analog camera-stick, two different shapes and not the standard.
The D-Pad was tiny and not suitable for 2D platformers or Fighters.
The clickable analog shoulder triggers were better than the standard at the time, but the 3rd Z trigger was oddly placed.
Overall the GC controller was good but the Wii U gampad resembles more of what an industry standard controller looks & feels like (besides the big touch screen in the middle).
