God of War is my favorite series I've played all the games several times except for the mobile one. I think each God of War has it's own unique stengths.
God of War I - To me this one of all had the best sense of adventure. From the boat, to Athens, through the desert, into pandoras temple with all the traps and puzzles, cliffs of madness, climbing out of hades, and finally time travelling trying to save your family against the clones. I also liked the magic in this game more than the others. I think I've played this one the most.
God of War II - has the best variety, from the number of environments, enemies, and weapons. Probably has the best pacing of all the God of Wars.
God of War III - is the most epic as far as scale. Big set pieces and killing tons of Gods. This one also has the best soundtrack.
Chains of Olympus - is definitely the weakest of all the games. Don't have much to say about this one
Ghost of Sparta - this one has the best production and story of all the games. I'm surprised this one didn't get more votes. The final boss battle is the most unique of all the games. Infact I think because this one was so good a lot of people were expecting Ascension to be crazy good as far as story. Ready at Dawn really proved themselves with this game. I think we're in for a treat when The Order: 1886 hits.
Ascension - this one to me has the most fun combat. I think the grappling mechanic was so much fun. This one also has the best graphics, sound, and finishing kills of all the games. I think a lot of people knock this game more than they should. I think it's more of small changes people didnt like with the parry system, rage meter, adding multiplayer, etc. Though I think the story is by far the weakest of all the games, which again was kind of a disappointment to me after Ghost of Sparta. I do think this game is better than 3 though.
