How long do you expect XOne and PS4 TO LAST?
Don't forget - those NETBOOK cores and middle-class GPU are on par with a 400 bucks PC NOW.
In TWO years a 200 bucks SetTop-Box will be as fast as them or even be faster (thanks to NVidia Pascal).
So to speak THE OS IS THE NEXT CONSOLE. The specific hardware doesn't matter anymore. Its the AppStore that matters. And Microsoft has an OS to sell or give away for free: Windows Games.
Microsoft won't do nothing when Android, Steam or even cable comanies own OS are eating Microsofts lunch. Not way. Not after decades of investments...
Nintendo will survive as always: making unique hardware which enables unique software.
Sony is the big looser here. They "only" have the PS4...
But Microsofts strategy is perfect: a single OS and AppStore for ALL devices - mobiles, tablets, settop-boxes, consoles, PCs .
Will be interesting to see how Apple will play catchup.
