Unfortunately, Both the ps3 and ps2 use different chipsets, and trust me, emulation is not perfect. There are always games that don't run properly. Ask any emulation vet like myself. You'll have maybe 80% of all the games available, and maybe 20% of those will have distortions, plus, they would need someone to code them for emulation. It's not like people just make image files and run them through the emulator. There is quite a bit of coding involved. Each game probably would take a small team of four 2-3 days at the very least.
Furthermore, sadly enough, I think Sony wants to abandon the ps3 as quickly as possible. The chipset inside is still very expensive to make. It must kill them thinking about the margins on it....thinking that they're spending so much on such a difficult architecture that didn't pan out. Everytime I would look at the bottom line, I'd be revisiting the feeling of failure. No, ps3 has to go. Bring on PSNow, ps4, and let's see a new vita too.
