Killing Floor 2 exclusive first look: co-op FPS horror with the most advanced gore system ever
Paris is burning. The sky behind the Eiffel Tower glows an ominous orange through a haze of billowing smoke. Sparks and ash and scraps of paper float through the dark streets of the city, where cars and offices stand eerily abandoned.
A manhole opens. For a moment, nothing happens. And then a zed, a naked genetic freak sheathed in slimy grey skin, pops out of the hole like a horrorshow jack-in-the-box. The zed has the mind of a child. It doesn't know much, but it knows it wants to kill.
Valiant Hearts: The Great War release date announced, trailer shows drama, heroes, and a dog
I swear, Ubisoft, if anything happens to that dog, I'll... er, well probably just a have a little cry about it. I bet that's exactly what they want, too, the monsters. Valiant Hearts: The Great War may be a puzzle-based adventure game, but, as you can see from the tone of this new trailer, the character-led look at World War 1 won't be afraid to play with your emotions when it releases on June 25th.
Maia 0.42 update adds first planetary creature, new research stations, toilets
When we last checked in on Maia, it had just landed on Steam Early Access. Since then, developer Simon Roth has been busy building up his sci-fi colony sim. The latest update introduces some clever research technology, an adorable deadly giant, and—to the relief of every simulated colonist—toilets. In a new video transmission, Roth runs through the features of the patch.
Age of enigmas: Microsoft are hiring for a new entry in a "well-loved strategy franchise"
Microsoft are hiring! And they’re not looking for people to make start menus or blood-watching cameras or even plastic lounge computers - they want a bona fide game developer to help lead a team working on a game in an “established” and “well-loved” strategy series. Of which we can think of only one in Microsoft’s possession.
CCP "permanently remove" three Eve players behind Reykjavik monument vandalism
Last week, CCP unveiled a monument built in tribute to Eve Online and its pilots. Four days later, somebody scratched out the name of another player they had beef with.
CCP have called the incident an “insult to the entire community” - and “permanently removed” the individuals responsible from their playerbase.
“We do not tolerate this kind of behavior,” they said.
League of Legends exploit removes control and renders champions helpless, report players
A newly discovered hack in League of Legends has seen players lose control. Not in a red mist sense, but a “these keys aren’t doing the thing they're supposed to” sense. Take a look.
Paranautical Activity devs fight players over cancelled co-op; insist FPS "not abandoned"
Paranautical Activity does for Quake what Spelunky did for platformers and NetHack did for word-processing - tie the game to the procedurally-generated chaos we like to call roguelike.
It’s out on Steam Early Access in what its developers call “extremely functional beta form”. But the cancellation of a long-awaited co-op mode has its developers fighting their own community.
Why Call of Duty's audience is collapsing on PC, and how Activision can fix it
Just look at this graph.
It shows how each new Call of Duty game has fewer people playing multiplayer than the last. Yes, Call of Duty: Ghosts did have 37,000 players online concurrently on release day, and that’s impressive, but the game before it, Black Ops II, had 64,000. Modern Warfare 3 before that had 86,000, and so on.
Activision can’t escape the fact that the popularity of their flagship series is in freefall on PC.
But it doesn’t have to be.
Galactic Civilization 3′s Early Access Ships Ship Builder
By Graham Smith on May 8th, 2014 at 2:00 pm.
Gal Civ 3 launched into Early Access in late March, but at the time the game was missing much of what made the 4X strategy game special, including diplomacy, colony management and ship building. Stardock are beginning to change that, and yesterday launched an update that added the freeform ship builder to the game. There’s a long, 40-minute archive livestream below showing exactly what you can do with it. Here’s the important part: you can now have animated parts on your phallic dong-vessels. Maybe it’s time to windmill into battle?
