So... a tabletless Wii U and a 3D-less 3DS will cause sales to explode? I am guessing that is the "crap" you are talking about? Nintendo released the 2DS, which I'm guessing was created to address the problems of the 3DS (expensive and 3D function) and sales went from 2.2 million in Q4 to 90k in Q1. If the quality of Nintendo games remained somewhat high (which they have, like the DS), system is still receiving movie tie-ins and shovelware (which it still is, like the DS), have multiple games geared towards women, a segment that Iwata championed during the DS era (which is also true, like Disney's Magical World) and is cheaper (retails for $99-129 vs 169/199) then why the extreme drop-off? With many games not using the tablet functions at all, im sure removing the "crap" from the Wii U wil cause a spike in sales as well right? |
In the mass market's eye it's the same step as polishing a turd. (Qualifying that i myself am quite satisfied with my Wii U and 3DS right now, but the sales do, unfortunately, tell a different story).
Now, dropping the gamepad and the 3D is important in the sense that Nintendo can get the price down and profit margins up, but it's not going to change the root appeal of the devices.
