Don't get me wrong, it has its up sides, like when using the claw shot or the bow, but to have to flick the controller to swing the sword and not have it work all the time really blows. Also the system having trouble telling the difference of me wanting to hit the enemy with my shield and me wanting to do a spinning attack when the motions are completely different is kind of stupid. I probably would have liked it more if they stuck to just push A to swing and incorporate the motion control for special attacks, but that is not the case and it doesn't change the fact that it has trouble telling the difference in the motion of the nun chuck that I mentioned. I usually would have beaten a Zelda game as good as this one close to twice by now in the time that I have had it but I can not play for extended periods of time without my wrist getting sore because of those controls, after all, the point of a gaming system is to the play games not recoup from the last gaming session.
I could make a more informed decision when I buy Super Mario Galaxy, but that won't be for a bit longer, to see how they evolve the controls, but the way that they started inspired a lot of 3rd party companies to make the motion censors the controls of the game instead of a complement to the game. That isn't very focused I know but to make my point clear, I am glad that they did what they did with the remote, there are good things about it, but I don't like how they went about using it so far. I much prefer traditional gaming because it would allow me to play the games more instead of playing a little bit here and there because of poorly thought out controls (like in Metroid where reviewers said you can't play the game for long without getting carpal tunnel). |
Well controls are not perfect on Zelda, but to tell the truth, I have never felt sore after playing Zelda or Metroid and Ive finished them both 100%. I played for 10 hours sessions some times. You need to do slow movements not shake your arms like it was the last thing you will ever do, just do it properly. |
Slow movements in Zelda won't get Link to swing his sword, Navi just flies back and forth across the screen. I don't shake my arms like my life depended on it either, just a quick flick of the wrist as my hand is wresting on my lap and it seems that is all it takes. I have also thought about getting the classic controller, since it is supposed to be usable in the game, but I want to try and beat it first using the Wiimote. I think Nintendo did the right thing in having their games support the classic controller as well.
