Also i'd guess it has to do with Japanese developers making more exclusives.

Western Dev's are more likely to throw a game on 5-6 platforms including the PS3 and 360 (but not wii U).

 

Someone giving another guy $5 and you nothing is one thing... someong giving EVERYONE else $5 including people they have to walk past you to get to?   That's a whole other deal.(As is the PS3/360 case technologically.)

 

People are used to the niche RPGs everyone coming out just being on one console.
