What did Microsoft do with Rare? Made shovelware.

-There were people who enjoyed perfect dark zero, banjo, kameo, etc on the 360.

The fanbase, reviews and sales for those games are less then their the games Rare made on N64. MS bothced Rare.

-Despite the games not being as loved as Rare's N64 games they still had a following who enjoyed them.  If you mention an N64 iteration of any game and a successor on another system most people will say the N64 version was the best.  People seem to have a soft spot for the N64 that I will never understand I enjoyed my Gamecube far more than my N64.

.M-Every game will have a following. I personally liked Terminator Salvation the game. That doesn't mean that Terminator or Rares's 360 games are any good. Microsoft killed Rare.
------

-So Grounding made one bad game at the launch of a new console I will take that with a grain of salt.  If their next title turns out bad then I will be worried.  The old people in charge Don Mattrick and others who pushed motion controls and casual games that use kinect have left the company for the most part so hopefully the developers can focus on making the titles that they want to make.  I remember seeing an article saying that Rare now has the freedom to return to their older ips or make new ones that don't focus on kinect now that the executives who forced them to focus on kinect only titles are gone.

.M- I see reason to assume Rare's next game will be good. You can hope, but you can't expect it. I mean didn't most of Rare disband to join Crytek? Then we saw Crysis

. Okay, but Pandora's Tower is only an average game at best. The Last Story and XenoBlade are amazing and I'm grateful for them, but Nintendo doesn't make many large scale IP's. Maybe 1 every 3 years (XenoBlade/Wii series for Wii, Pikmin/Animal Crossing for Gamecube and Smash Bros/Mario Spinoffs for N64). JRPG's are niche games and while I appreciate them It's still important to mention that Nintendo (and the Vita) lack a large audience new IP

-It's easier said than done to make a large scale new IP that captures a large audience.  By that criteria you may be able to consider uncharted series, TLou, and gears of war series.  Other than those I can't think of any exclusive new Ips that fit your criteria of large in scale and great sales from last gen.

.M- LittleBigPlanet, Resistance (1 sold 4 million +), Crackdown (sold 1.72 million), Motorstorm, Sports Champions, InFamous, Heavy Rain, Dead Rising, Dance Central, Mass Effect (started as exclusive)......all sold better then XenoBlade (which I consider a large scale new IP, even though it's another Xeno series game). Plus look at this gen, XB1 already has Titanfall (even if it's only 1 which is exclusive) and PS4 has The Order and Drive Club announced.

So it sounds like you are a major fan of Bungie/Epic and you don't believe that any of the studios microsoft have left can produce a title that would be up to the quality that a bungie/epic can make so you don't have a lot of faith in the xbox one.   If that's how you feel I can respect your opinion.  Let's just agree to disagree.   Halo 4 was the most fun I had with a Halo game since the first two on the original xbox.  I didn't care that bungie was not the developer anymore after I played the game and realized how good it was.  I'm not a gears of war fan and unlike 343 studios black tusk wasn't assembled for the sole purpose of making gears of war games so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

.M-The story in Gears of War ended conclusively even if Black Tusk can make a good game, the plot will be an add on. Halo we can agree to disagree, but aren't you tired of Halo yet? I'll get an XB1 one day, and get Halo 5/6/Others, but I can honestly say that the hype is gone. Just like Nintendo needs more then just Mario/Zelda for the WiiU, Microsoft needs more then just Halo/Forza.
------

NOW YOU GET IT! The 360 launched with a good variety of exclusive IP's (Perfect Dark, Kameo, PGR, Amped, Dead or Alive, Full Auto, Chromehounds, Prey, Dead Rising, N3, etc). Every single IP that released within 360's first year either went bust, or multiplatform. Then 360 launched a bunch of "timed exclusives" like Lost Planet and Elder Scrolls, so what does that say about XB1's 3rs party exclusives currently? Titanfall is already following a similar path to Mass Effect where 2 & 3 will be multiplatform.

-Phil Spencer is saying that they care more about building their own ips this generation instead of trying to get third party exclusives so I will believe him for now.  Itagaki who was a big supporter of microsoft was fired and then Tecmo started releasing their games for every system under the sun.  Bioware was bought by EA and EA has a track record of releasing games on multiple systems.  And like I mentioned earlier a lot of the third party exclusives that the 360 saw early in it's life was due to the ps3 not being out yet and developers not wanting to wait for ps3 before making games for a new gen.  Once the ps3 was released and developers learned how to take advantage of the system the exclusives from the third parties stopped for the 360.

.Why do you believe him for now? I recall Microsoft said the same thing after Mass Effect and GTA IV DLC went multi-platform. If they lied before, they will lie again. Microsoft paid for a lot of those 3rd party exclusives to be "timed exclusives" and this gen developers know that there is just more money making multi-platform games. Respawn even stated that the only reason they made Titanfall exclusive was because Microsoft would publish it

-I believe him because Phil Spencer wasn't the front man during the GTA 4 dlc and Mass Effect days.  Everyone in the industry even Sony talks about how good Phil is and how he is the best person for the job.  If most of the industry people believe he is the right fit and believes in him why shouldn't I they know more than I do.

.M- Too much trust. All this is is hope for a better console, but do you get my point? It's all fair and dandy to hope the XB1 is awesome, but it's unreasonable to expect it to be awesome. You can only expect the same as history has given and even then take that with a grain of salt.
------

-So like you mentioned before these are niche titles that are not large in scale and don't reach a large audience.  I will reserve final judgment until the game is released but Drakengard currently looks like a mediocre title in every way.  Tales of games are great and are currently on sony systems but you shouldn't rely on that since that series has a history of jumping from system to the next.

-I will have to disagree with you wipeout and socom series were quality and well loved with a loyal following.

.M- I wouldn't call any of the games I mentioned niche, they all broke 1 million sales. Demon's Souls, Ni No Kuni, InFamous, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, The Last of US, etc. They all outsold XenoBlade.

As for Tales, the lead designer (Hideo Baba i believe) said that the Tales of series won't be jumping anymore. The fans of the series are clearly playstation owners. This is why the PS3 saw so many Tales of games recently.

Do you disagree with my point that based of PS3 trends we can expect 1 major new IP every year?
----

P.S. Just wanted to point out a funny trend. I bought all my PS consoles because of GT, and I bought my only XB console (the 360) because of Forza.

You made me think about a trend of my own on all of my PS consoles I have played a Gran Turismo, a Metal Gear Solid, a Resident Evil, and a Final Fantasy and on all of my Xbox consoles I have played a Halo and Forza title.

.That's not surprising, it's their biggest games. I didn't get into Resident Evil until the remake on Gamecube and for XB I only ever beat Halo 2. I own Forza 1, but it doesn't work well with the 360 wheel so I didn't play it much. Especially since PGR3 was so awesome.

-Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 on the gamecube were great games and really showed how powerful that system was.  The gamecube is one of the most underrated systems of all time in my book.  I have beat all of the main series Halos but I only beat Gears 2.  PGR3 was probably the one I played the least.  The original PGR is my favorite.

.M- I just realized that you misread me originally. I bought a PS1 because of GT1, I bought a PS2 because of GT3, I bought a PS3 because of GT5 and I even bought a PSP because of GT PSP. Right now the PS4 & PSV look boring to me and guess what? There is no GT game. I'm sure I would instantly buy the consoles as soon as GT7/GT Vita release.

Gears of War 2 is the best in the series, but you really did ruin the game by jumping to 2. 1 had a much better plot. Gamecube was a good system, I used to be a Nintendo/Sony fanboy before and Gamecube was my primary console, but it just didn't have enough games to keep me wholey occupied. Wish I gave PS2 more of a chance looking back, I missed out on a lot of great games (which I intend to beat one day).
-------

I hope RE7 isn't a flop like 6 was.

-RE7 will probably flop like 6 although I did enjoy RE Revelations on the 3ds so they are still capable of making a good RE game I just haven't seen one on the consoles since RE 4.

.M- I still have to play Revelations, only got my 3DS last fall. Capcom can surprise you, I'm pretty sure a lot of people were tired of Resident Evil after 3 & Zero, but then out of no where RE4 came out. Same story with Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and well a lot of their franchises. IMO Capcom can only either mae a really amazing game (e.g. Lost Planet) or a really terrible game (e.g. Lost Planet 2).

All I'm saying is that it's unfair to assume XB1 will be awesome. Nothing wrong with hoping, personally I'm hoping that Japanese studio exclusive is Mistwalker with a Lost Odyssey quality game. However based off history, we can't expect much from Microsoft.

Hence why I voted N64.

Plus like you said, I've lost interest in Halo/Forza/Gears, so much of the beauty of the XB1 has immediately lost me. On a side note I haven't lost faith in the WiiU because it already saw Pikmin and DK and X is currently my most anticipated game . Don't much care for Mario Kart/Smash Bros/Zelda, but since I plan to get a WiiU soon, why not?
