I disagree whole heartedly, if anything 3D played a role in poor sales more so than the success.
with a standard display the hardware would have been cheaper.
the 3d did very little to push the console that was pulling piss poor numbers until... dun dun duuun... games started coming for the system, most people play with the 3d turned off, so much so that the 2ds doesnt even allow it to be turned on.
It was a gamble, and it almost killed the handheld, focusing more on games and not the 3d feature is what rescued the 3ds.
