People love to say that Pay TV (Cable, Sat) is dead.. Its estimated that there are 115 million TV households in the USA. Over 90 million of othem have Cable or Sat.. Average household has 2.5 people.. 225 MILLION people watch Cable or Sat TV... USA has 313 million people.. so 72% of ALL Americans have Cable or Sat TV... the declines are nominal for real cord cutters. Yeah thats all good but theres only 2 problems.
1) Cable TV providers are not going to give MS a dime for allowing their TV to pass through XB1.
2) To the vast majority of people who watch proper TV, XB1 only offers a tiny convenience which no-one will care if they dont have, and its not a big influencing factor when people decide which console to buy.
You explained brilliantly how TV is still alive, but people can still watch it even if they buy another console.

Not with the intergration the X1 offers. I don't get how people don't understand that. The X1 makes GAMING easier, and more social then ANY other console EVER has. When you are watching TV ... how do you know your friends logged on their PS4? You don't.. your console is shut off and even if it was ON, you can't tell anything going on it, because you have to swtich HDMI ports.
Buy the X1 being INPUT 1 it will open a HOST of possibilities that the PS4 can NEVER have. This involves gaming and entertainment. This will ALWAYS allow for a greater intergration of GAMING and ENTERTAINMENT. I think the realaztion of this technologically has ONLY just begun. Microsoft can work directly with cable companies to at one point mostly elimate the cable box.. I think this is what you will see.. No different then what Fan TV, and possible the next Apple TV are also striving for.
I do think this will limit the X1 internationally, but could ultimately give them greater sales in North America and the UK.

Yeah but when people are watching TV, who really wants all of that? It just kills the immersion on the programme you are watching.
If anyone REALLY wanted to, they could just use the playstation app to see whose online, what they are playing, watch them playing and send them a message... and it wouldnt be getting in the way of the show they are watching.
And im interested in the 'possibilities' you talk of. What exactly are they? do you think anyone will even care if the PS4 NEVER gets it? do you think it will make even the slightest of difference?
X1 will end up with greater sales in NA and UK anyway because thats their strongest markets. The sales in those regions are good not because of this TV thing, but because thats where the xbox brand is the strongest, thats where people got titanfall for free, thats where people got the biggest price cuts, thats where their games have the most appeal.

Is social media integration that important that you must know who's online while watching TV? People watch TV to watch TV. You play games when you are in that mode. I don't see how "so and so is online" popping up while you are watching tv makes for anything special regarding gaming and entertainment. If anything, too much integration kills the immersion whether watching TV or gaming. It's already annoying enough having "so and so is online" pop up while watching netflix. I'd imagine a bunch of ADHD gamers are the only ones who like that stuff. On another note though, besides the NFL app that I could see serving a purpose especially when it comes to fantasy league, everything else is just fluff trying to sell consumers integration that's not needed.
