I think you forget how unpopular double dash was. The karts on that game looked hideous and everyone hated the partner system. It was agame that didnt deliver what fans wanted at the time, just like zelda ww.
MK8 is nothing like double dash. Graphics are top notch, no ugly kart or partner system. Its what fans want. An actual evolution of the series into 3D, something DD never delivered on. I remember Mario kart arcade beeing out at around the same time and people saying they wanted that instead. I believe the game later changed into Mario kart wii.
For the record, i know the thread is about 2014, but that was boring so i prefer to adress the comparisons to double dash.
