Let's be honest there is no difference for us mortals if we watch a stream with a Japanese guy up on a stage or with one in a conference room. And it shouldn't really matter to the press either. What counts are new and announcements. The nintendo direct is probably the most connected thing nintendo does right now. E3 conferences are not a thing for the press anymore (haven't been for along time to be honest) they are pure marketing and the direct format is a good way to control it. No bugs on stage no strange jokes
