So they are not using anything from the arm to encode? I thought they had dedicated encoding hardware on the mainboard?

They do, but the formats are different between stored on the encrypted hdd and exported to non encrypted usb.

Which format do they use? Which encryption do they use on the hdd? So they aren't using the dedicated hardware for USB copy? Which codec does the arm-companion-chip use and which is used on USB?

Exported video is H.264 AAC, though the re-encode shouldnt slow down the transfers that much, theres speed loss from moving from encrypted to non encrypted and from handling the video/audio transfer, for example I get a solid 22mb/s on transfers to my usb3.0 external hdd, so im guessing its an issue with usb2.0, i would probably get 30mb/s+ on usb3.0 if the ps4 didnt use an encrypted drive.

I wonder which part is handled by ARM and which by the jaguar cores. I would've expected that en-/de-crypt is also handled by dedicated chips so it doesn't slow down file operations. Especially when stuff is done in the background so the main cores don't have to bother with this stuff.
