So here are my thoughts. So pumped that many of the original cast members will be appearing, especially Hamill, Ford, and Fisher, who lend gravity to the production. Also pumped for Serkis, who's brilliant at what he does, and von Sydow, who's a living legend. The small-name actors are a bit of a double-edged sword. It could work out really well because inexperienced actors often have less baggage and can disappear more completely into a role. Or that inexperience could show onscreen and subtract from the production.

The most positive thing about Episode VII is Kasdan, who, along with Kershner, was the best thing that ever happened to Star Wars. The most negative thing, and, unfortunately, the one thing I fear will drag down the entire movie, is Abrams. Whatever skill Abrams demonstrated in his TV work has obviously not translated to film. Whereas his TV shows, most notably Lost, are replete with interesting scenarios, characters, and inventive storytelling, his movies are conventional, noisy, and, above all, safe.
