It's true that the controller was an obstacle. Nintendo planned a 2D Kirby but it got canceled and the 2D Donkey Kong (Jungle Beat) used the Bongos instead of the controller. Viewtiful Joe and the Megaman/Sonic collections were where we got our 2D platformer fix on the Gamecube.
