Yes. GC did that at a lower price and with more big games. Obviously it's a possibility, not a certainty, to make the possible come true Ninty must fix what's still wrong: price, more games and better marketing. An entry level version with a 4.5-5" screen Upad would help too, both lowering costs and pleasing potential users that find the current pad too large (a model WITHOUT pad, splitting the user base, would make more harm than good).
