Why do Japan and Zelda not mix?

To be fair, Phantom Hourglass actually did fairly well...
It just barely missed out on a million...
Having said that, Japan sure doesn't seem to love Zelda like the West does...
But I think it's easy for the "core" Nintendo fan to overestimate its popularity...
