Should Nintendo produce a digital-only Wii U?

Anyway, the entire OP seems to be about getting the Wii U to cost less. It won't reduce costs that much and retail games are often cheaper to purchase than digital. As a consumer, I see no positive side to buying a digital only Wii U.

Downloading on day one when I could already be playing? Losing my games with my console? Not having every game available (didn't know certain games were disc only, did ya?). Can't rent or borrow? No. Not an appealing prospect.

I know some games are disc only. Mass Effect 3, Skylanders being amongst of them, but I don't think digital distributiion for any game would be too hard to achieve.

As noted in another reply I had to this thread, the account system could be changed so games aren't locked to the hardware.

Games that load faster when played -- that's plus.

Being able to buy games from home -- also a huge plus.

Of course waiting for the game to download kinda sucks, but you can always play another game while that's taking place.

The purchase price of the console is the biggest barrier to entry. Even if this is not appealing to you, many others would be more pragmatic.
