3rd parties are skipping out on Nintendo because...

- The Wii U is selling poorly, and...
- Nintendo's audience doesn't support 3rd party efforts unless it's a dancing or party game.

Two of the biggest 3rd party franchises received installments on the Wii U this past holiday season... COD Ghosts and ACIV.

Here is what COD Ghosts sold across all platforms...

1 Call of Duty: Ghosts X360 2013 Shooter Activision 5.57 2.19 0.03 0.65 8.44
2 Call of Duty: Ghosts PS3 2013 Shooter Activision 3.23 2.84 0.37 1.29 7.73
3 Call of Duty: Ghosts PS4 2013 Shooter Activision 1.13 0.75 0.03 0.18 2.08
4 Call of Duty: Ghosts XOne 2013 Shooter Activision 1.18 0.40 0.00 0.09 1.67
5 Call of Duty: Ghosts PC 2013 Shooter Activision 0.15 0.29 0.00 0.08 0.53
6 Call of Duty: Ghosts WiiU 2013 Shooter Activision 0.10 0.02 0.01 0.01 0.15

And here's what AC IV sold across all platforms...

1 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag PS3 2013 Action Ubisoft 0.89 1.27 0.11 0.54 2.81
2 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag X360 2013 Action Ubisoft 1.34 0.90 0.00 0.21 2.46
3 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag PS4 2013 Action Ubisoft 0.68 0.68 0.03 0.14 1.53
4 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag XOne 2013 Action Ubisoft 0.49 0.21 0.00 0.04 0.74
5 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag PC 2013 Action Ubisoft 0.12 0.23 0.00 0.06 0.41
6 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag WiiU 2013 Action Ubisoft 0.10 0.05 0.00 0.01 0.16

No matter how you slice it, those are absolutely pathetic numbers.  And these aren't watered down ports... the Wii U versions have all the same features as their PS360 counterparts, and were released the same time as the other versions, which are two things that Nintendo fans complain most about 3rd party efforts.

These developers and others take a look at the numbers and then say to themselves "why bother?"  It's just not worth the effort for them.  And I guarantee you if GTAV was on the Wii U it would have sold just as poorly as those two games, which would have been the ultimate black eye for Nintendo.  Luckily Rockstar and Take Two spared them the humiliation.

Well you know you’re in trouble when pc at retail is outselling you.
