I can only speak for myself, but I'm "complacent" with Pokémon X/Y because:
- it retains characteristics of previous entries (the story doesn't take itself too seriously, gym badges are still mandatory, visuals push the system but doesn't go for a realistic look)
- it doesn't have an abundance of unnecessary customization options, which is the first stage of DLC and microtransaction integrations
- the game isn't flooded with a bunch of new Pokémon, which suggests that Nintendo rightfully counted Mega evolutions as a sort of new Pokémon
- I was able to create a character with a skin color that matches my own.
Oh, and the soundtrack is awesome.
