Microsoft do have a problem here, but it'll be a really hard one to fix because of all the elements involved;
- There have been so many articles comparing the One's 720p to the PS4's 1080p that everyone's aware that the PS4 is the better hardware, getting the better ports.
- PS+ offers infinitely more value than Xbox Live Gold.
- Trust in MS is at a low, given how they abandoned their core audience to chase Kinect for four years, so a lot of people have already gone with PS4 instead.
- Their only two announced holiday season games are new IPs, and they've hardly seen the light of day so far and have built no hype at all.
- For every month the PS4 dominates, there'll be a huge amount of people that then buy more PS4s just to be able to play games with their friends, causing PS4 sales to skyrocket even further, and those people likely won't rush to get an Xbox One as well.
Now, everyone's so quick to say "Drop Kinect and knock off $100!" but even then, you're left with a console that's the same price as a PS4, only it doesn't run its games as well. So people would still just buy a PS4. Microsoft would need a HUGE price cut in order to make any difference, and even then, what's to stop Sony doing the same and beating them in price again anyway?
The only thing Microsoft can do is make the case with games and try to earn back peoples' trust. Come out at E3 and bring footage of Halo 5, Fable Legends and whatever exclusive content their can get their hands on.
