I do understand what you're saying. But unlike cars, there are only 3 makers of major home consoles so I do think it's prudent to compare the 3. They may be targeting different markets but comparing the Wii and PS3 shows the relative success or failure of their respective strategies. Although I digress... Using your logic then comparing the PS1 or even 360 launch with the PS3 is unfair. They launched at different times targeting different markets and audiences. The 360 was the first Next-gen console, whereas the PS3 was dropped on a market already through transition -and that makes a big difference. All comparisons are "unfair" in one sense or another, unless the two systems are practically identical.
