Those willing to pay can have all the pretty 60fps or higher fun they want, consoles being fixed platform means fitting as wide a budget bracket as possible, so the hardware can't be too exotic. Next gen however there will be enough power in consoles for 1080p 60fps to be the norm, with more intensive games or badly optimized ones jumping around the 40-60 range. |
I've heard the argument that 60fps will become standard on consoles before; in 1998 when the 6th gen was looming, then again in 2005 when the 7th was announced, then in 2012. Every time, devs continued to favour 30fps with more detail.
