You can choose between motion or analog steering on the gamepad, but from what I can tell, Wiimote is motion controls only.

You can also use the Wiimote/nunchuck combo for analogue stick steering just like the Wii version.

Yep, but I believe he was asking about the Wiimote by itself specifically since he mentioned the D-pad, and so that's what I answered!
