In the case of patent trolls like this, I really do think the system is broken. I seriously doubt her technology patented was similar enough to the diodes used in HD players, and I'm confused why she waited until now to bring it up.
edit: And as always, the patent trolls require cease and desists from the companies in question. I don't understand why they ever think that'll work. They should just ask for a bucket of money and go home.
