Do you think VGC should track it?
I think VGC should track it. Even though we might now consider the Fire TV just a box for Netflix and mobile games, the fact is that Amazon understands buying behaviors and how to market and sell stuff better than most. Amazon is certainly well capitalized enough to acquire some quality studios and titles. Implementing online gaming networks would be pretty easy for them. They also already have a robust user account management system too. I think they're really in this to compete and win marketshare away from the big 3.
IMO : If Fire TV takes off, it may push the gaming industry off its trajectory to full HD gaming (PS4, XOne, and PC) and put greater emphasis on mid-HD games. That's a trend that could be a boon to last gen HD consoles, Wii U, and PS Vita while stunting growth of the PS4 and XOne platforms. That fundamentally changes the kinds of games we see made, how successful 'next-gen' games are and what new technologies come to market (VR comes to mind).
