My favorite series and game is DooM. I (and many others) will never forget playing this game for the first time. It truly revolutionized everything about gaming. Sidenote: Super Metroid is my second favorite game of all time. Both are timeless and do not age whatsoever, and aspects that made them so great still hold up equally as strong today as they did on release. Also 2 examples of top tier level / world design and soundtracks in gaming history.
