Mario Kart: Wii to have no multiplayer in Grand Prix?

I just don't get all the excitement here.

You can have 12 player online matches.
4 player in room matches.
combo 2 in room 10 online.

Sounds fantastic.

what's all this fear about multiplayer sucking....I just don't get it.
