You should add "that I've played" to the topic.  *edit*  Like what Nem stated, most people consider FF10 the best because they've only played PS2 RPGs and after.  They haven't played any of the better PSX RPGs or those truly great PS2 JRPGs that were mostly ignored selling 50k or less.

Final Fantasy 10-2 has the best combat in the series, which that alone makes it a good game.  If people played more than 20 minutes of it before deciding it was a bad game they'd change their opinions of it.

Ive played SNES,PS1/PS2/PS3 Era RPGs, FFX stands at the front of the line still.  FFX is still probably the best PS2 era RPG, followed closely by Persona 4 and KOTOR. PS2 era still had many others to enjoy tho, it wasn't like all the others were horrible. And I think it holds up just fine in comparison to SNES/PS1 eras. The SNES era is so far overrated due to sprite nostalgia. Only one worth a damn really from that period is Chrono Trigger (FFVI and IV are just middling for me). PS1  has FFVII and IX.......so of course that era was awesome.

TOTALLY agree with the FFX-2 statement. Many never got past the all girl cover cast. Some picked it up and started playing...got to the leblanc fight and stopped, if even. I thuroughly explored the game, I talked to Maechien, I went into the dungeons, the story was just as rich in FFX-2 as it was in X. And I don't think anyone can say for a moment the combat system was bad, they just always concentrate on "Nothing like FFX"
