Ehh, maybe. The game is coming out soon anyway, and no one who would buy a Wii U for a Smash Bros beta wouldn't buy one for the full game. At best, they're selling some consoles a little bit sooner.
I ask because Nintendo seems to release demos only for games that need more exposure, like Fire Emblem and Wonderful 101. Smash Bros definitely isn't one of those games. So if a demo wouldn't help sell the game, and it wouldn't help sell consoles, what purpose would it serve from a marketing perspective?
