People seriously need to quit talking about "when are Nintendo games going to use the GamePad". For one thing, they already HAVE been using it, for various things. Secondly, this is NOT the fuckin Wiimote. A whole new control concept forced on people for most games. It was neat sometimes, but NOT a replacement for traditional controls.
Wii U has a traditional controller, that just so happens to have a bunch of cool bells and whistles. People need to QUIT acting as if it actually is a fuckin' "tablet", because it isn't, anymore than the DS touch screen made that system a "tablet". Wii U has a touch screen/second screen, yes. And that's awesome. Off-TV play, map/item screen on controller, using as a second screen to scan/hold game text, etc., all awesome. Even using it in cases where it WORKS for touch controls = awesome. But that doesn't mean that every damn game should use the touch screen. Nor does it mean every Wii U game, retail or digital, is obligated to use all of the Gamepad's features. It's a controller, with fancy extra options at the disposal of developers.
I'm not against Nintendo using some touch-screen functionality in a Mario or Zelda for a little puzzle, or to interact with a menu, etc. etc. But as a main game mechanic? No thank you. That certainly doesn't mean the Gamepad was a "waste". It's great HAVING those options. It's great HAVING off-tv play, or a second screen for map/items so you don't have to pause, etc. It's great having the touch screen to navigate menus and type in codes ,etc. All those things are very useful. But I don't personally want another "motion control Mario".
