2017 is the earliest they'll release a new console. I could possibly see 2016 for handheld, but no way for console. It'd be suicide. Consumer confidence would be lost, as would 3rd party support. EA and their ilk don't like Nintendo's way of business; there are philosophical differences that are all but irreconcilable. A Nintendo console would have to have superior hardware, a similar architecture, 50% market share and some hefty bribes in order to receive genuine support.

Nintendo's best bet is to combine their console and handhelds so that they can produce enough games that 3rd parties become irrelevant to their success. Nintendo are a software company, their hardware is a means to enable their software business, so long as they aren't losing money on the hardware, and enough software is being sold to turn a profit they're golden.
