I know how my Samsung SmartTV performs although it has a dual-core processor: like crap!
And to those comparing it to Ouya: Ouya had close to no content deals and wanted to sell Ouya like a gamig consoles which was destined to fail, sadly. And they still have technical issues with their hardware not solved until today.
Amazon instead has a lot of marketing power, enough content, a big established brand name.
The concept itself with an android device hooked up to a TV is really tempting to me. You have almost infinite possibilities, you can install xbmc, you have decent browsers to choose from and access to games (if you like them, of course). I think it is no competition to current consoles because they only have an adreno 320 in this box which is outdated nowadays but we will see a lot of iterations in this concept just like the fire tablets.
I think by now Amazon is just building new games with bought studios so they decided to not put a modern GPU in the box.
