Exactly how would that be too far on April Fools day? You know they're joking so just laugh it off. People can make "Wii U sells tons of units!" Jokes every day but get sensitive when Frostbite makes a joke on the day you're meant to say jokes. |
Hmm maybe my example was bad. The point is that you don't insult your own audience. You don't see Oprah Winfrey making fun of mothers on mother's day. It's in bad taste. Maybe if this was a news show then fine, make fun of us all you like, but not a game developer because that can be construed as a serious opinion. Not only that, but if it was just a news journalist it would probably be some trumped up story no one cares about, however a game developer can without a doubt poke fun at where it actually hurts.
Allow me to demonstrate why this particular joke was bad for EA. I personally believe that EA doesn't give a crap about the Wii U anymore. Their support as a third party publisher has gone out the window, I don't even know about any prior, current, or future EA titles for the Wii U. I believe at this point that EA has actually told its developers that the Wii U is never gonna happen for them and that may have even created an atmosphere where openly bashing the Wii U is acceptable at an EA development studio. All of this is just my own personal baseless conjecture about EA, but when an EA developer makes jokes like these, it suddenly doesn't sound so baseless anymore.
