It seems that handheld games are just becoming console games on a handheld. Where as I used to get a completely different experience from my GBA to my PS1 or N64, now most of the best games on Vita/3DS may as well be on a console. Look at Mario Kart 7, it's just a console Mario Kart on a handheld. I don't see why Pokemon XY can't be on the WiiU. Vita has this problem too, it's main selling point was console gaming on the go. Well I don't play handhelds on the go, at least I haven't since I was a kid. I can't play my 3DS when I'm driving a car or at my job. The other selling point for a Vita is indies, most of which are available on other systems anyways.

I'm not saying the 3DS and Vita have poor libraries, well maybe the Vita, but they don't offer different enough experiences. The 3D effect on the 3DS was completely worthless, and the touchscreen on the Vita was nothing more than a gimmick. The DS used to have games like Brain Age and Picross, that was a handheld experience that differentiated itself to what was being offered on consoles at the same time.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think the best handheld experience out there is on smartphones. You get to play fun minigames that are over in short bursts, perfect for when you have a few minutes to spare. There's a ton of creative games out there that make cool use of features on your phone. There's also the fact that you don't look silly when playing games on a phone in public in comparison to pulling out a Vita.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
