Therefore bringing ports of lesser PC games to the Wii U won't do any good either. Thankfully Nintendo isn't wasting their time on a project of such a big scale. I'd like to believe that they think of actual solutions for the future, rather than digging a deeper grave. |
I just start by saying this could be only one of X options Nintendo has for its future, and any of them has pros, and cons, depending on which objective Ninitendo is pursuing and on which audience they want to cater.
The whole meaning of launching a Steam machine would be to have 3rd party support without the need for 3rd parties to make ports, since a Steam machine is basically a PC with an alternative OS.
Of course Steam on WiiU would be meaningless, but to include the WiiU architecture on a Steam Machine could be a bit of a different story, since it would be basically a >400S machine with secured 3rd party support and Nintendo exclusives. This way they could continue supporting the WiiU for until this gen ends.
In this scenario, they should ditch the gamepad, or better, make it optional. Also as an extra incentive they should let Steam developers use wiimotes and the WiiU gamepad in their games (maybe in exchange of a small royalty).
