That being said your OP is completely false. You can build a PC that can pkay every game with good settings for $1000. Factor in the insane Steam sales and its MUCH cheaper than cobsole gaming.

That being said the hunt for power is addicting and its easy to become obsessed with buying super enthusiast end components for the best image quality.

$1000 is pretty expensive for some people, especially for a computer that isn't needed.   Much of that money could to food, gas, etc.  So the OP is true.  

You're just fortunate to have enough money to have the perception that it is false.  

If you have a computer in the first place, you can pretty much deduct the cost of that from the mention $1000. Why? Because you already paid for your computer and the difference between what you paid and the mentioned $1000 is what you paid for your computer's gaming capabilities. Pay $400 for your computer? The cost of gaming capabilities is $1000-$400=$600. And if you're poor enough that you can't have a computer at all, I doubt you have enough money to be gaming at all.
