John Carmack's work unaffected by Oculus deal: "I suppose I will get a Facebook account now"
The moment Facebook’s planned Oculus acquisition was announced yesterday, John Carmack’s Twitter feed was swamped with questions. Far too many for a busy man to answer himself - and Carmack is still very busy.
“For the record, I am coding right now,” he said. “Just like I was last week.”
CCP will still release Eve: Valkyrie as a Rift launch title: "We're very excited for Oculus"
For a long time, we worried that Eve: Valkyrie might not be destined for the Oculus Rift at all - CCP were cagey on the subject, and whispers of Sony’s own headset bounced around convention centres.
Now that developers are getting cold feed in the wake of Oculus’ Facebook deal, however, it’s CCP who are first to take the VR company’s corner.
Endless Legend shows Amplitude Studios building on lessons from Endless Space
Endless Space was a well-designed and produced space 4X strategy game, and maybe the best new game from the bumper-crop of 4X strategy games we’ve enjoyed these last few years. Yet for all that I liked Endless Space, I never once loved it. It was too thematically spartan, and its hints at a richer setting were overshadowed by the functionally identical factions and empty, impersonal vision of space exploration.
Their follow-on project abandons space for some fantastical terra firma in Endless Legend. With their new setting, developer Amplitude Studios seem to have found the inspiration and style they have been looking for.
Things to do when you're 50: The Elder Scrolls Online Edition
If you’ve managed to get through the 150 or so hours it apparently takes to get to level 50 in The Elder Scrolls Online, punching mudcrabs in their stupid carapaces and standing around while ethereal old men spout nonsense, then you might be wondering what you can do.
Apparently, there are quite a few things, says creative director Paul Sage, from veteran rank zones and adventure zones to PvP content. ZeniMax Online wants you to stick around.
Call of Abraham developers blame the Devil for their lack of success
You might remember Bible Chronicles: Call of Abraham as the curious Christian game that presented the story of Abraham as literal fact and failed to meet its Kickstarter target of $100,000 by $81,000. Developer Phoenix Interactive hasn’t given up, however, and is currently seeking other funding options.
The problem is, they’ve made an enemy: the Devil. Co-founders Richard Gaeta and Martin Bertram believe that the mythological fallen angel is very real, and he’s scheming against them, they tell Polygon in an interview.
Drown a cyberpunk city in adverts with AdvertCity
Blooming megacorps, making us buy stuff and lining the streets with colgate adverts. What buggers. But if you can’t beat ‘em - and you definitely can’t - then you might as well join them. And now you can do exactly that, but your soul and ability to look at yourself in the mirror will remain, because it’s only a game.
VoxelStorm’s AdvertCity is a cyberpunk advertising tycoon game set in an evolving, procedurally generated city (the meatspace) and its digital counterpart (cyberspace). The goal: advertise for the megacorps and make lots of cold, hard dosh.
3D Realms changes its tune: Duke Nukem trademark "remains the sole property of 3DR"
3D Realms and its new owners Interceptor have fired a shot across Gearbox’s bow in response to the lawsuit where Gearbox alleges that both companies are infringing on copyright by developing Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction.
This is a 180 degree turn, as 3D Realms previously admitted that they had no right to allow Interceptor to develop Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, and they promised to stop being naughty. Then Interceptor bought 3D Realms and said that it hadn’t announced a Duke Nukem game - despite a Facebook page already plugging it.
Witness reverse goat destruction in the Goat Simulator launch trailer
Remember that fairly emotionally resonant Dead Island trailer that made everyone think that the game would be a gut-wrenching exploration of sacrifice, horror and family in the midst of a zombie apocalypse instead of hitting zombies in bikinis? It wasn’t particularly representative of the game.
The launch trailer for Goat Simulator cannot be tarred with the same brush, despite the homage (mockery?) of that very trailer. Oh, enough of me rambling on - just go and watch the bleating thing.

You can take a look at them right now to see where you stand, and whose position you're gunning for, you competitive lot, you.
