My idea for a new wii u model is a top loading console that plays wii u, wii and gamecube discs directly (easily possible with a top loading design). I'd put a small removable display in a revised gamepad that still functions as a normal gamepad but the screen also slides out of the gamepad and has a passive 3D layer to the screen (bear with me). The screen can then be inserted into a visor attachment with polarised lenses and a small motion sensor is in the display too.
End result a console compatible with 3 generations of discs and a basic cheap VR setup that costs less to make than the current wii u. However the visor accessory would be a additional purchase.
I'd also put a small sata hdd slot in the console but not include the hdd.
