I think Molyneux is overlooking the fact that the internet, which wasn't around in his early days, has been a massive contributor to why these smaller games made a comeback in addition to game development tools being more available to upstarts. The ability to find and network with the people you need to know has never been easier and companies like Sony and Microsoft love the idea that they can potentially gain big with very low risk projects that fill in the gaps. Small developers can get the word out without having to use big marketers and crowd funding has been a great way for them to avoid the struggles with publishers and big investors. Hell, for some of them it's the only chance they got because they were turned down by those same entities. Sure, many of these current indies will fail and those that succeed will likely become the next big thing but there will be no shortage of people who want to get into gaming and will take that same path. This is a different time we live in compared to the 80's and I think Molyneux is forgetting that.
