Nintendo isn't consistent enough to be essential, that's for sure. Reputation alone isn't enough. MS doesn't care about regions other than North America and I'm guessing they'd find a way to milk the market dry too quickly if it was up to them so not MS either. That leaves only Sony, and while they're not perfect either, I think they're the most sustainable choice.
