Cevat Yerli of Crytek, specifically stated they'd had to cut things from Crysis 2, because it would only work on PC. Battlefield 4 on PS3/360 runs at what would be low settings for PC. Call of Duty games have been running on an engine that was originally created for what, CoD 2? Infamous SS, Killzone, Knack, Ryse, Forza 5 etc... as they are now, would not be able to work on PS3/360, as their resource requirements are at least 5-10x that of those consoles. I'm not saying you can't still make good games for 7th gen hardware, but including them in the equation when making new games for 8th gen, will kneecap the functionality, performance, draw distance, loading times, character models, particle effects, etc... basically everything but story would be lessened. |
I think you missed the point.
PC games like Crysis, BF3/4, and Witcher 2 are great examples that fantastic looking games can be scaled back and play well on 7th gen specs.
Visuals and maybe some features get scaled back on 7th gen consoles, but gameplay itself is mostly true to the original.
Infamous SS, Killzone SF, Knack, Ryse, and Forza 5 are visually impressive. But much like Witcher 2, Crysis, and BF4, they could be visually scaled back and have the gameplay MOSTLY intact on 7th gen platforms.
Quite frankly, GTAV is more technically impressive than any of the games mentioned.
