Cmon, Nintendo isn't that dumb! They surely realize by now that MK8 is likely their last chance to change the Wii U's trajectory. They'll have two more months time to think about this too since nothing else is going on with the Wii U until then.

Why not wait and see what Mario Kart will do as a stand alone retail game before throwing money away by bundling it and doing a price cut ?

Because another price cut is needed and inevitable, so best to coincide it with the system's biggest game to maximize the impact. Also this'll help grow the install base so games like Bayo 2, X, Hyrule Warriors, etc. don't bomb so hard.
