While I find it jarring to go back to watching anything on old tube SDTVs, the "jump" from 720p/1080i HD (which is what 95% of HD television programs broadcast in) to 1080p is barely noticeable. Not to mention that most console games including many gen 8 games thus far aren't native 1080p, so it hardly makes a difference if your display is 1080p or not.
